Utility Detection

Utility Detection

Utility Detection is the process of identifying and labelling sub-surface utilities. Subscan uses the best Ground Penetrating Radar and Cable Avoidance (CAT) systems available globally to detect any utilities mains to a depth of 3m*. Utilities regularly detected include:

  • Fibre optics
  • Electricity distribution
  • Natural gas lines
  • Storm water pipes
  • Water Pipes
  • Sewer pipes
  • Telecommunication lines
  • Hidden Bore Holes

Our highly experienced teams not only do the GPR detection but we have the skill, knowledge, equipment and software (GPS, Total Station, Surpac, Model Maker, AutoCAD) to accurately geo-reference any work and map the results.

Notable Accomplishments:

  • More than 100km of scanning, capturing and mapping where specifically the full road reserve had to be scanned has been done throughout South Africa.
  • More than 1500 scans completed at various intersections for directional drilling under Johannesburg roads.
  • Successfully completed scanning and accurate georeferenced utility mapping of entire facilities at Affies Seunskool, Mahikeng Stadium, 3 x Simba Factories, Eskom Megawatt Park and various smaller schools, hospitals and construction sites in design phase.
*Penetration of 3m cannot be guaranteed since GPR is influenced by the conductivity of the soil it is working on and the conductivity of the object that is being detected.
